Agra

The ultimate symbol of Mughal achievement is the Taj Mahal, unquestionably the world's most magnificent monument to Love. A colossal, perfectly proportioned mass of white marble, it is literally a jewel, fashioned over 17 years by hundreds of skilled craftsmen and over 20,000 labourers, to float like some fantastic mirage upon the Yamuna. Agra also boasts of other magnificent monuments from these builder kings.

Amritsar

Known for its golden temple, the most sacred shrine of the sikhs with
its holy tank called " the pool of immortality". Nearby is the Jallianwala Bagh, where during the British rule in India, General Dyer opened fire on innocent people causing a massacre. The place is now a national monument. Its walls bears the bullet marks of this tragedy.

Aurangabad

Ellora Caves --- consist of temples and monasteries hewn from rock by Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monks and craftsmen. They tell the story of the evolution of these Religions. Over 2000 years old, they have been compared to the pyramids for truer amazing constructions, sculptures and frescoes.
Ajanta Caves --- consist of 24 Monastries and 5 temples, again carved out from solid rock. The wall paintings and frescoes of these caves have a beautiful flow of line and a wealth of colour.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands

A string of about 300 islands whose tropical beauty has been preserved by its inaccessibility. Once a British penal settlement, today it is a favoured holiday destination. With silvery beaches, clearly observable coral reefs and marine life coupled with unlimited watersport fun.


Alleppey

A market town built around a lifeline of canals. A major centre of backwater cruises and the famed snakeboat races. The colourful Nehru Cup boat race is held here on the second satyrday of every August.
