Agra finds its name in the great Indian epics, but the city became world famous during Mughal Reign. The city served as the capital of the Mughal dynasty for several years. Agra is noted for its World Heritage sites and inlay marble work. Setting itself beautifully on the banks of River Yamuna, the city magnetizes a lot of tourists with its diverse marble and red sandstone structures.
We shall start our sightseeing tour of Agra by visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Taj Mahal. It is regarded as the epitome of love. It was built by Shah Jahan for his beloved wife MumtazMahal as a final resting place. The grandiose of Taj Mahal incorporates hard work of 20,000 workers and was completed in 22 years. The architect of the masterpiece was Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, a Persian architect. It is also renowned for its stylish domes, exceptionally carved screens, and for finest inlay work.
After visit of this marvellous monument, the driver will take you to restaurant of your choice in Agra for lunch.
After lunch, the tour will continue to visit Agra Fort, an imperialist fort situated on the banks of river Yamuna and served as the center of operation for the Mughal emperor Akbar. The fortified walls of the fort encompass several palaces and houses like Moti Masjid, Diwan-I-Am, Diwan-I-Khas, MusammanBurj, Jehangiri Mahal, Khaas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal etc. The fort is the finest architectural monument built in red sandstone.
Later we shall set out for Sikandra, the tomb of Akbar. Located on the outskirt of the city, the ruler started building his tomb during his lifespan, but the construction was finally completed by his son, Jahangir. The monument has manicured lawns with exceptionally engraved gateways and white marble memorial and flawlessly adapts the best of Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist, Jain motifs, representing the new religion started by Akbar – the DEEN E ILAHI.
It is time to return to Delhi after visit of the monuments of the Imperial city of Agra.
