 GENERAL INFORMATION

Entry Procedure

Citizens of all countries including Commonwealth countries require VISA to enter India. Multiple Entry Visa will be required for those intending to visit the neighbouring countries like Afghanistan, Burma, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bangladesh. A Tourist VISA is valid for 6 months stay in India.

Collective visa

Foreign Tourists travelling in a group (at least 4 persons) can apply for collective visa under a recognised travel agent. You may contact us for further details for visa under this category.

On Arrival

Tourists who do not have any dutiable goods or unaccompained baggage can pass through the green channel, while others must go through the red channel for customs clearance. Importation of 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 gms of tobacco; Alcoholic liquor upto 0.95 liters is permitted duty free. Importation of personal jewellery, cameras, binoculars, tape recorders, transistors, professional equipment etc. is allowed duty free, provided a TBRE form is completed on arrival Unlicenced or undeclared arms will not be allowed into the country.

On Departure

The TBRE form and the goods entered therin must be produced before Customs for verification at the port of departure.

Special Permits

Even with a visa one connot travel to certain areas without a special permit. These areas include Assam, Meghalaya, Darjeeling and Sikkim. Permits are normally provided to tourist groups for a limited period and may be obtained from Indian Missions abroad or Govt. Agencies within India. It may take upto 3 months to obtain these special permits . You may contact us for further details.

Prohibitions

Some Indian states have liquor prohibition law. Even others where there is not total prohibition one may require a liquor consumption permit. Facilities for issue of such permits are available in India's international airports or any other Govt. of India Tourists Offices. Customs clearance of any imported liquor is not enough. A permit has to be seperately obtained. For Tourists, these are issued free of charge.

Money Exhchange and Regulations

One must change money with authorized money changers and to obtain a receipt so that thier unspent rupees can be reconverted on departure from India.

Foriegn Travel Taxes

Passengers embarking on journeys to any place outside India from a custom airport/seaport will have to pay a foreign travel tax of Rs. 500 and US $5 (new tax introduced) 150 on journey to Afghanistan, Bangaladesh, Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Currency Regulation

NO Indian currency may be brought into or taken out of the country. There is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into India. However if you are carying more than 10,000 (2500 Cash & 7500 T.C's) then the same has to be declared at the arrival in country in currency declaration form.

Electricity

In whole of India standard voltage of electric supply is 220 Volts

Languages

Different languages are spoken accross different states in India, however most common language is Hindi and English.

Accomodation

The quality of hotels and lodges varies considerably from area to area. Hotels offered have been selected for their services, comfort and ambience. Here there is an unique opportunity to stay in accomodation as varied as magnificients palaces of erstwhile princes or "pension" style homes. Many of the game parks offer comfortable tented camps, while the remote area over-night tend to be comfortable but simple. Except for some tented camps bathrooms are ensuite and rooms are furnished with twin beds. Almost all big hotels have swimminmg pools.

Every where in India Right Hand driving standard is followed.

Medical Assistance

Immunization against polio, tetanus and typhoid is recommended. All cities have modern medical facilities.

Mineral water is available in India, Softdrinks companies like Pepsi and Coke is available in almost every part of India.

Climate

India is a large country and it surprises travellers with a varied climate. The northern part of the country has similar weather for most of the year. In the evenings temperature can drop upto 15oC. The southern half of the country remains warm for the best part of the year.
