FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHILE PLANNING TRAVEL TO HARIDWAR
How do I reach Haridwar during Haridwar Kumbh Mela?
The most convenient way is to fly to Dehradun airport which is 40 kms from Haridwar. However, this is not a major airport and therefore has limited flight options from other major Indian cities. Incase you are unable to find a connection to Dehradun airport, you can reach Delhi airport and book a private car/coach to take you to Haridwar which is 200 kms from the Delhi. Haridwar is also well connected through the Indian railway however you need to book the tickets well in advance.
I have heard that motorized vehicles are ban during Kumbh Mela. Is this true?
Yes, Motorized vehicles are banned during main bathing dates. Millions of people are expected to visit Sangam during the bathing date, most of the border roads will be blocked to enter into the city. Even if you try to reach from the airport or station it will take several hours to reach your destination.
Do I have to book Hotels / Train tickets / Air tickets and transport in Advance? Can you do that for us?
Yes, It’s recommended to book your travel / train tickets in advance (even same will be applicable for transportation). This is most recommended as the inflow of travelers traveling to Kumbh Mela would be more than the available resources.
What kind of accommodation do you provide in Haridwar?
As there is huge rush of visitors during Kumbh Mela, it is not easy to find accommodation especially during important bathing dates. Hotels in city are booked to capacity since long in advance and their tariff is also quite high. Besides scarcity and exorbitant tariff of hotel, these hotels are quite at a distance from Melaground and therefore not very convenient. We provide our guests accommodation near the fair ground in luxury camps which are equipped with all comfortable amenities; attached bath with hot & cold water, hygienic and delicious Indian and Continental vegetarian cuisine, safety, house-keeping and guest services.
Is there any restriction on food and drinks at Kumbh Mela?
Yes, being a very sacred place and event, it is not allowed to have non-vegetarian meal of any kind (no meat, fish, eggs, etc.) It is also not allowed to consume any alcoholic drinks.
